Vasco Nuñez was born at Jerez de los Caballeros in Spain, 1475 and died (executed) on January 15, 1519 Acla, Panama. As a child Vasco worked for a rich noble. Since Christophor Columbus had reached America alot more people were exploring new lands and ever since Vasco was a child he longed to be an explorer.
His Discoverys
Around the 1500's Vasco Nunez de Balboa's dream came true and he set sail from Spain and arrived in columbia in south America. Vasco and his partner, Rodrigo De Bastidas, sailed the sea's for sometime. Once they had reached the coast of South America, Balboa and Rodrigo searched for treasures (such as, pearls and gold).Vasco Nunez de Balboa, accompanied by his dog Leoncico, was the first European to see the eastern part of the Pasific Ocean. Once he and his partner had collected the treasures he and his partner set of West but unforchantly their boat began to take on water and they were forced to abandon ship. They were lucky enough to be washed onto the shores of Hispaniola. Luckly they still had there gold and pearls. They dicided not to keep the treasures for themselves and planned of giving it to King Ferdinand of Spain. Before it could reach the King, the governer of Spain , was a very greedy and selfish man and did not want Vasco being more popular than himself. The governer convicted him of treason (even though he did nothing), and sentanced him to death. On the January 21 1519 Vasco Nunez de Balboa was beheaded. Vasco's tombstone is now located in Havana, Cuba but is not open to the public.
